Revealing a new city of Jerusalem, a new earth and a new Heaven brings joy to the Christian soul.  This is particularly true when death, mourning, weeping and pain are  replaced with God’s abiding presence. I recently lost a dear friend, to whom this work is dedicated, and I find this vision into eternity quite comforting. 

“I saw the holy city” is adapted from John’s Revelation in chapter 21.  This anthem is suitable for Saints Days, funerals, remembrances and general use when focusing on what is to be might be the theme of worship.  

From a Revised Common Lectionary perspective, it is in sync with New Year’s Day (A, B & C), 1st Sunday after Christmas Day (C), All Saints Day (B), and the fifth Sunday of Easter (C).
