Fantasia on Hyfrydol for Trumpets and Horns (or Trombones) and Organ was another semi-finalist in the 2024 Lois Fyfe Composition Competition.
It is moderately easy for the organist and the brass players although 1st Trumpet players should have the chops for a sustained A3. The horn and trombone parts are interchangeable making this a versatile work for using your local talent.
The hymn most frequently associated with this tune is “Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” paired with the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The tune, itself though, needs not be limited to that one Feast Day of the Church.
This work is also appropriate for most festive liturgies including All Saints Day, Easter Sunday, the Sundays following Easter Day including, of course, the solemnity of the Ascension. Consider using it for ordinations, baptismal and confirmation services and other festive occasions. It would even be nice for the consecration of a new worship space or a new organ.
The download includes an organ and brass score for horns and another for trombones, as well as individual trumpet, horn and trombone parts. As with all my works, it is available at no cost.
Soli Deo Gloria!
